Feedback from community members indicates the critical need to repair this bridge.
The following list is a combination of feedback from community members before, during, and after the community meeting on March 15, 2025, April 1, and April 8, 2025, Clay County Board of Supervisors meeting.

There is confusion about the availability of FEMA money to fix the bridge. It has been stated on more than one occasion that there may be an estimated $400,000 available through the FEMA process.

Community members want clarification on the FEMA process and what the county has done to receive this funding.

FEMA money for the bridge may be at risk of being reallocated by the Clay County Supervisors to a different project in Clay County.

The bridge is critical for rapid response time during emergencies.

Emergency Access for community members

Nielsen River Access Point for fishing boats, canoes, and kayaks.

Increased difficulty in getting to public access hunting (previously ½ mile away, now 12 miles away).

Miles and time added to UPS deliveries

Access to cropland has been severely impacted by adding time and miles

Access to cattle on both sides of the river is impacted

The Special Youth Challenge (SYC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping youth with disabilities engage in and enjoy shooting sports. This group is impacted by restricted access to hunting properties in the area.

The bridge is a critical access point connecting the community for businesses (examples: agronomists, farm businesses)

Frequently used as a photo setting for seniors, weddings, families, and photo enthusiasts.

Increased traffic near local poultry barns facilitates the transmission of disease, contributing to the spread of HPAI (highly pathogenic Avian Influenza).

The Bridge is part of the High Bridge Wildlife Area.

UTV and ATV groups use the bridge as part of their route.

Historic Community Bridge should be repaired and maintained.
